The Mayo Clinic is located in Rochester Minnesota. There are also Mayo facilities in Jacksonville, FL, and Scottsdale, AZ. Dr William Mayo and his two sons formed the first Mayo Clinic, in the late 1800’s. The Mayo Clinic is a non profit organization and the second largest in the state of Minnesota. The Mayo Clinic follows a strict mission statement: "Mayo will provide the best care to every patient every day through integrated clinical practice, education, and research."
There are also a group of different branches of the Mayo Clinic (Mayo Health System). They are located in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. One of the reasons why the Mayo Clinic has been so successful and attracts the best doctors in the world is because doctors at the Mayo are paid by salary. They are not paid through the number of patients that they see as are most other hospitals and medical facilities.
